Kamp Gruoninga - Het Resort

The two Petal Shelters in Kamp Gruoninga at the nomadic artist in residency @hetresort consist of 13 petals and 39 zippers. On the summer solstice we unzipped them at the exhibition space in Het Hooghuis to migrate to the island in Het Paterswoldsemeer where we build them back up, petal by petal and with rope we made from recycled denim. The blue flower fits around a tree and Joseph painted our blouses.

Selfgrown flower tents tend to evoke childhood sentiments. In the guided journey at the solstice sunset grownups use the belly button to open the gate to childhood. There is something to find there to take along into the second semester of the year.

For concrete dreaming prayer bricks carry our intentions to border the solstice fire.

How we tied intentions into the prayer brick workshop:
we found a rock or stone in our environment even if it was urban
we journeyed into our childhood
we formulated what we want to bring along and formulated what we want to leave behind
we wrapped these intentions around the stone
we cast them into a mould

Watch me balance, six months pregnant, in muddy sea soil, while the voiceover takes you to a space where you can liberate yourself from traditional family patterns of the previous generations of mermaids.
Progressive mermaids don't stick to the spell, they choose both voice and legs, they choose for both their art practice and motherhood.

Video 5:00; guided voice voyage developed in 2020 for @fhp feministische handwerkpartij; Now with Stingray in-calf mermaidsuit; synthetic soundscape by Leon Kooi @leon_kooi; voice recording Roy Veenstra; video Lauwersoogwad by @josephmarzolla, Part of S05E01: KAMP GRUONINGA @hetresort
